In 1974 I was operated on for Endometriosis. For several years, my husband and I had tried to have children. When I spoke to my mother about this at this time, she told me about the abortion she had when she was sixteen.
“She carried the abortion with her as a secret deep inside”
It was performed by my grandmother in their home in the kitchen on the kitchen table. When mother was 23, she got married. In that marriage, which lasted 10 years, she had no children. She was then very worried and thought that the reason for this could have been the abortion.
In 1933 she met my father and now she immediately became pregnant, my brother was born in 1934 and nine years later (1943) myself. The abortion had not caused her any physical damage. However, I would think that she carried it with her for the rest of her life as a secret deep inside.
She could tell me that because she knew how I was tormented by my own childlessness. Perhaps you could say that the pain united us.
