About
We are a digital platform established by the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) and hosted by Reproductive Health Uganda (RHU), one of the federation’s Member Associations. We are centred on empowering diverse young people with vast, accurate and age appropriate information on sexual and reproductive health hence improving their well being. The platform, whose major strategy is meaningful and inclusive youth engagement/ participation takes on the form of an online information portal that features a website with vast interactive features and linkages with other IPPF youth communication channels. If you are here, it means you’re browsing through this website right now!
Specifically, the website is a one stop centre for young people to have access to information about available opportunities, events, real time stories and experiences, best practices of different member associations, and publications centred on sexual and reproductive health and related topics.
We stand for the notion “Nothing for us without us.” This means that we embrace meaningful youth participation. Meaningful Youth Participation means that young people are actively involved in all stages of a programme including initiating, planning, executing, monitoring and closing. It also means that young people can actively participate when it comes to making decision making.
This platform is run by team of passionate young people a ‘10-member youth think-tank’ and a ‘5-member grants management team.’ These two teams work together in order to ensure that all operations of the project are representative of the ideas, thoughts and opinions of the young people within their networks. Through youth- adult partnerships, they also work collaboratively with staff within the federation which offers young people and adults the opportunity to share wisdom, make suggestions, and share decisions.
We seek to increase meaningful participation of young people in key federation processes including strategic decision making and also strengthen interaction and exchange of ideas among the young people in their different networks.
The platform specifically performs three core functions:
Global Youth Connect is a far-reaching platform especially because of its digital nature. It seeks to reach out to diverse young people across the world. It also focuses on drawing the attention of other stakeholders including parents, cultural and religious leaders, media, civil society organisations, and governments. Not only does this have them recognise their role in ensuring that a safe and supportive environment for young people to realise their sexual and reproductive health and rights, but it also enables young people hold them accountable for ensuring that their rights are fulfilled.
We intend to strengthen youth leadership both within and outside the federation by aiding sharing of information, strengthening collaboration and networking, and prompting young people to tap into their strengths and passions in order to create change within their societies. Above all, this platform seeks to provide young people with a safe and inclusive space where they can have access to accurate and appropriate SRHR information and services.
